ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL LILONGWE

Arrival at Lilongwe International Airport. You will be brought to your guesthouse where you can spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Accommodation: King’s Guesthouse or similar

 

DAY 2: LILONGWE TO BLANTYRE

Our first tour will start in the south of Malawi. You will be transported in a comfortable coach from Lilongwe to Blantyre, the point from which your adventures in the southern part of Malawi will start.
Accommodation: Chinyonga Guesthouse or similar

 

DAY 3: MAJETE GAME RESERVE

After your breakfast our representative will pick you up and drive you to Majete Wildlife Reserve for the start of your safari adventure.
After years of neglect African Parks took over management of the reserve in 2003 and wildlife numbers have risen immensely. All members of the Big Five are present and you will have time to search for them all.
Accommodation: Community Campsite within the reserve

 

DAY 4: MAJETE GAME RESERVE

You will have a full day in the Reserve where our guide will do his best to show you as much wildlife as possible. The landscapes are spectacular and diverse.

DAY 5: MAJETE GAME RESERVE

Zanzibar is an incredible archipelago with so much history, culture and places to visit so, for the last few days of our tour, we will In the morning you will get your last chance to search for that elusive animal you missed the other day. Then it is time to say goodbye and you will be brought back to Blantyre for your overnight stay.

DAY 6: MULANJE MOUNTAINS

Today you will drive to Mulanje Mountain Forest Reserve. The reserve spans the highest mountains in Malawi. Depending on your wishes you either start an easy walk or on a more demanding hike.
Accommodation: Mountain hut.

 

DAY 7: MULANJE MOUNTAINS

Enjoy the fantastic panoramic views from the Mulanje Massif during your walk in the Mountains.
If you want you can try to climb to Sapitwa Peak, at 3002 m, but this journey is not for the faint hearted. Please consult your guide regarding the possibilities.
Accommodation: Mountain hut.

 

DAY 8: MULANJE – BLANTYRE

As you descend from the Mulanje Plateau you will get a glimpse of the forests that cover the slopes of the mountain including birds and monkeys. When you arrive at the base of the mountain your driver will take you back to Blantyre for your overnight stay.

DAY 9: LAKE MALAWI

After days of safaris and mountain hiking you will have time to relax on the tropical beaches of Lake Malawi. Our representative will take you to a nice place on the Lake.

DAY 10: LAKE MALAWI

Today you have all the time in the world to do absolutely nothing. However if you prefer to be more active, there is plenty to do at the Lake, such as snorkeling to discover the tropical world under water.

DAY 11: LAKE MALAWI

Another day at the Lake. Another day filled with sun, beaches and relaxation. You can go for a boat ride, go kayaking, canoeing, diving, horse riding, the possibilities are endless.

DAY 12: LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK

After a few days on the beach we will take to you to the highlight of Malawi: Liwonde National Park. When other parks in Malawi were suffering, Liwonde National Park managed to hang on. The park has seen a change in management in the recent past. There are plenty of elephants and hippos in the river and on the savannahs. All members of the Big Five are present in the park.

DAY 13: LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy the wilderness of Liwonde while on a jeep safari. You might see a lion kill or spot one of the rare cheetahs. Per boat you will meander on the Shire River between hippos, crocodiles and numerous elephants crossing the river and on the riverside. Simply immerse yourself in the experience.

DAY 14: LIWONDE – LILONGWE

Enjoy your last safari in Liwonde National Park before you make your way back to the capital Lilongwe.

Day 15: South Luangwa
To reach South Luangwa National Park, you will cross the border into Zambia. On route we will stop off at ‘Rock View’, where you can have a great view of the Luangwa valley and learn about the plants that the residents of the valley use as medicine!
On arrival at the lodge you will be greeted with a complimentary welcome drink. The rest of the afternoon is for you to recover from the trip and take in the beautiful nature around you before the evening meal is served.
The camp overlooks a marshy area where hippo, elephants and other wildlife abound. You can experience a safari right from your doorstep.

Day 16: South Luangwa
After an early wake-up call and a light breakfast you will set off for a morning drive into the national park. During the drive, there are excellent chances of sighting elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo zebra and plenty of other animals. You will return to camp at around 10:00 a.m.
In the cool of the early evening, you will have time to enjoy an evening game drive. Most animals become active when the heat of day has passed and during this time it is easier to spot animals
You will enjoy your dinner back at the lodge and settle in for your overnight stay.

Day 17: South Luangwa
After breakfast you will enjoy a walking safari into the park. Animals will recognize you as another type of animal. Standing there, watching them at a safe distance, is a primal experience and your own instincts and excitement will kick in, heightening the experience emotionally.
In the afternoon you will again go on an evening drive. After it gets dark we switch on powerful spotlights in search of nocturnal animals including the elusive leopard! After returning from the evening drive dinner will be served.

Day 18: South Luangwa
Your morning game drives begins early at 06:00 and is preceded by a light breakfast. Your guide will try to find those animals that might have escaped you the other days
The afternoon is free for you to do what you want. You can book another safari, a walking safari or simply enjoy a book overlooking the area with plenty of wild animals to enjoy.

Day 19: South Luangwa – Lilongwe
Following breakfast you head back to Lilongwe, with a stopover on the way to visit Tribal Textiles. Tribal Textiles was set up in 1991 for local people to sell their hand made African textiles. You will arrive in the late afternoon in your guesthouse.

Day 20: relaxing day
This day is intended to let all the memories of the last weeks sink in and enjoy all the photos you have taken. You can also take your time to search for that special souvenir to take home.

Day 21: Departure
Alas we have to say goodbye to you. We hope you will have enjoyed the journey. You will be taken to the airport in time for your flight home.
